Supply chain is the backbone of any healthcare system. It satisfies the need of medicines, vaccines, and other health products essential for the well being . Ineffective supply chains damage the ability to respond to the healthcare needs of the population. The last mile supply chain refers to the final step for receiving goods or services and reaching “the last mile” is a key issue in India. Today, companies are focused on tackling the last mile in ways and with levels of convenience that were previously unimagined.

It’s unfortunate that the level of convenience in the last mile healthcare supply chain is far away to achieve as it has more friction than food products. Aspirations in rural India are on the rise and we are racing against time to ensure the effective delivery of essential healthcare services to these areas. Hence the organization has to understand the consumers to make responsible choices by focusing on empowerment and connecting them with opportunities in the markets in a way that meets both their needs and aspirations.

During the last decade, significant sums of money have been invested into health initiatives aimed at addressing health issues. In spite of that the availability of medicines at the last mile remains very poor. Health initiatives have contributed to large increases in drugs, vaccines, bednets, and diagnostic and laboratory materials flowing through country supply chains. This increase in product volume has started putting more pressure on the inadequately resourced supply chains. The role of supply chains as one of the key bottlenecks in health systems strengthening. A collaborative platform for essential services and market opportunities, consumer empowerment, breaking through local networks, building a soft infrastructure are the areas which need to be addressed and explored for meeting last mile challenges of effective supply chain.
